Find the rest of our Orange is the New Black recaps here! To me, Orange is the New Black is a nearly perfect show. The acting is flawless, the writing is balanced and sharp, and the show skillfully plays between drama and comedy. There is one resentment I harbor against the prison series: I hate Daya. Her story line for the last two seasons have centered around a romance with corrections officer John Bennett and her resulting pregnancy, a plot that is unnecessary, inconsistent, and boring. After the meeting, Daya and Bennett attack Aleida, claiming they are more than capable of raising the child. However, once Aleida raises logistical issues where the baby will live, and in what conditions , Daya immediately turns on Bennett. Dascha Polanco, who plays Daya, is almost always stiff, mostly unlikable on camera. Her dialogue is weak and carelessly written, surprising for a show that prides itself on high quality writing. The weakness of the plotline is disappointing, considering Mr.

Litchfield’s Prince Charming officially has a mean streak. Officer John Bennett had viewers swooning through season one of Orange Is the New Black — and kind of ignoring the fact that a guard courting and impregnating a prisoner is illegal. But Bennett isn’t just the nice guy anymore. His wrath kicks off after his inmate-girlfriend Daya’s crew blackmails him to sneak in contraband like Yoo-Hoo in his prosthetic leg, of course , in exchange for keeping the baby a secret.
The “leg-based contraband” operation as Flaca puts it doesn’t last. Pressured by demands from up top, Bennett starts power tripping and flipping out on inmates, even unfairly sending Maria to solitary. So what — he’s still adorable.

When OITNB began way back in , it focused on the foibles of protagonist Piper Chapman, who was sent to Litchfield after being convicted of smuggling drug money internationally for her girlfriend, Alex Vause.
While initially set up to look like a naive victim, we quickly learn that Piper is selfish, self-absorbed, self-involved and self-serving. It creates a weird dynamic where the main character of your favorite show is someone you hate, but that is quickly tempered by all the other women Piper meets along the way throughout the six years we spend with her at Litchfield. Compared with what I used to do for a living, the assignment from my editors at The Marshall Project was simple: Binge-watch the third season of Orange Is the New Black and tell us what you think. They had two reasons for choosing me. One, I had never seen the show and had no preconceived notions about characters or plot. And two, before I was a reporter, I was a corrections officer.
Unlike the women, the men strictly segregate themselves by race. Gangs are everywhere, tension is ever-present, and explosive violence often follows prolonged periods of boredom and monotony. There were occasional themes and moments in Orange Is the New Black that struck me as authentic, but for the most part it takes broad creative liberty in portraying the culture of inmates and staff in a correctional facility.

12 Times Poussey Stole Our Hearts In “Orange Is The New Black” Season 2 Poussey and Officer Bennett of Orange Is The New Black know exactly what it.
Unplanned pregnancies are never easy. Bringing a child into the world can redefine everything you thought you knew about the world, and for some people, that idea is just too much. Litchfield prison guard John Bennett from Orange is the New Black seemed to be ready to bring a child into the world, but things just didn’t work out. After romantically courting, impregnating, and proposing to inmate Daya, Bennett seemed to have a sudden change of heart and left Litchfield Prison early in Season 3 and disappeared for the rest of the season.
Bennett was one of the only likable employees in the entire prison and seemed to be a good guy, so why exactly did Bennett leave Daya and the baby? From what it looks like, Bennett just got scared and left. After pledging to help raise Daya’s child, Bennett visited Daya’s mother’s boyfriend Cesar to get an idea of what life would be like in the Diaz household for his baby. It turned out, Cesar was the last person who should be watching children, as he was fathering other children through affairs and threatening his step-children with gun violence.
Although Cesar gifted Bennet a crib for his child, the kindness of the gift couldn’t absolve Bennett of his fear. Bennett left the crib, which once served as Daya’s crib, on the side of the road and drove off, never to be seen again possibly. While it’s understandable why Bennett was so scared of bringing a child into that kind of world, it doesn’t make it any less frustrating to see him run away from his problems instead of trying to face them head-on.
Bennett Needs To Make Things Right On ‘OITNB’
The sixth season of Orange Is the New Black is excellent for many reasons. The script is on point a moment of appreciation for Adeola’s one-liners , the new characters are sublime give Carol and Barb all of the awards and the storylines are some of the most gripping that the show’s ever had don’t get us started on what happens to Taystee and Blanca. Five years on and it’s still one of the best shows on TV.
Nevertheless, there are one or two things that viewers are not happy about. Killing Kukudio off screen like that was not cute, the season finale didn’t need to be THAT heartbreaking, and we are still not over all of the missing characters reunite Flaca and Martiza now please. On top of that, CO John Bennett has not appeared on the show for an entire three seasons now and fans are not happy.
First came co bennett and daya then co coates donuts and oitnbs daddy and mccullough are dating in real life and our hearts are so full samira.
A lot happened in Orange is the New Black series two. Feuds, fallouts, lock-in-a-socks, corruption and lots of heartache. In her anger, she had her former? When the officer turned up at her flat, she was caught with a gun. Daya is in love with and carrying the baby of prison officer, Bennett, having claimed that another officer, Mendez, was the dad. Some of the inmates know the truth, and so does one of the officers.
Will Bennett Return To ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 4? Here’s What We Know So Far
After busting out a gum-wrapper ring and proposing to Daya Dascha Polanco , who is both the mother of his unborn child and still serving her sentence for drug related charges, Bennett visits her also-incarcerated mom’s boyfriend, Cesar, in hopes of connecting and becoming one big happy family of women in prison and the men who love them. But still, he said, “I’ve had mixed feelings about it.
We’re sort of breaking the romanticized bubble of Daya and Bennett and actually delving into what is maybe the most realistic portrayal — something that can express the consequences of a relationship between a guard and inmate. During a flashback to Bennett’s time in the military — the highlight of which is a video he made with his platoon shaking their stuff to Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” — we see Bennett is a similarly chill soldier as he often is a guard.
The Netflix original “Orange Is the New Black” recently ended after seven After Officer Luschek reveals that he’d forgotten to put in a request for extra During season seven, Gloria’s release date is in jeopardy after she is.
After this season, Orange is the New Black could really use the hope of a happy ending — even if it means a major redemptive arc for Matt McGorry. There’s no news yet about whether or no Matt McGorry will return to the Netlix series, but we haven’t seen Bennett since Season 3. Daya’s family life spooked him, and he ran from her and his responsibilities. He drove away and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
He didn’t appear at all in Season 4. This caused more conflict than he realized. Not only did Pornstache aka Mendez’s mother try to adopt his and Daya’s baby, which fell through but in retrospect may have been the best option, but the child is now in foster care. At the end of Season 3, Aleida’s boyfriend Cesar took the newborn but was arrested soon after, which means the baby, named Armaria, was taken away and put in the system.
Everything You Need to Know Before the Final Season of ‘Orange Is the New Black’
Read at your own risk. When TVGuide. But there is one thing they agree on: Daya had some bad ideas this season. Do you think Bennett did the right thing turning himself in to Caputo?
If you love Officer Bennett from Orange is the New Black, you MUST see this! If you love Orange is the New Black Season 2 Release Date: Expect Netflix.
John Bennett’s departure midway through Orange Is the New Black’s third season was gut-wrenchingly disappointing, even though we knew actor Matt McGorry was leaving Netflix for the greener relatively pastures of Shondaland. He was forced to skip out on OITNB when he landed a series regular role on How to Get Away with Murder , which just so happened to be a hugely successful network primetime hit that now has a regular shooting schedule.
But for Orange , it means that Daya was left high and dry without a guardian for her daughter. Considering Daya and her mother are both in prison, and her mother’s boyfriend Caesar who was caring for the rest of the underaged Diaz children just got arrested, Daya has no one left on the outside to be her daughter’s guardian.
She gave birth in the final few minutes of the Season 3 finale, which is also where we see Caesar get arrested. So this would be a great time for Bennett to swoop in and save the day. The only other potential guardian we saw in the works during Season 3 was a plotline in which Pornstache’s mom still believing Daya’s daughter was her grandchild was offering to adopt.
But Daya, believing in her relationship with Bennett, bails on the idea. Bennett, for his part, seems to have simply gotten overwhelmed by Daya’s complicated family situation. He meets Caesar, gets super freaked out by the prospect of becoming a part of this family, and disappears without a trace. It’s pretty much the world’s cruelest ghosting ever.
But Matt McGorry offered some insight as to why it makes sense in an interview with Vulture, especially as it pertained to the flashback scene of him at war, in which he loses his leg.
